Albums
Toto's discography comprises 13 studio albums as well as 4 live albums. There are also a few compilations. In addition to the release of original music, Toto has also done collaborations with other artists as well as on soundtracks for films. The group has won multiple Grammy Awards.
Before Toto was formed The members of the band played session work for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session drummer Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs' 1975 album Silk Degrees. The collaboration led to the formation of Toto in the year 1976.
Turn Back, Toto's third studio album was criticized by critics due to not having hit singles. In 1985 the group's lead singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group The group held auditions for the new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the group recorded their 1986 album Fahrenheit.
Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to mark its 20th anniversary. The band dug through old recordings and tapes to create the unique record. The album was a hit by fans, and the band embarked on a tour with former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.
Shem von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as drummer on the tour in support of the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In the year 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included live recordings from the tour as well as an interview with the group.
